Echo In History – Cape Town Interfaith – Cape Town, South Africa

22 June – 28 June 2014 – The Human Sound Project was invited to Cape Town by a woman named Marlene Silbert who heads up the Cape Town Interfaith Intercultural Tweening and Exchange Program. Marlene’s program carefully selects future South African leaders from a range of different socio-economic backgrounds and religious faiths. Hindus Muslims Christians and Jews, rich and poor, come together to learn about their commonalities and celebrate their differences; the hope to foster peace and unity in the new generation of South Africans. So, Marlene asked The Human Sound Project to come and work with these 30 young leaders over the period of a week from 22 June – 28 June 2014; to facilitate a new song, by them, that reflected their experiences of cultural and religious diversity. The result was this song: “Echo in History” which was performed to a live audience of 150 guests in Cape Town South Africa.

The Song:

Lyrics:

I was always struggling to get what I want, because I was born in a poor family.
I asked my parents, but they doubted my capabilities. They should think twice about what they say.
I made them understand that belief was more vital for people’s lives.

I knew someone that liked tell racist jokes, I was then inspired through my parents life story to change and to take action in my life.
Through my process of making change, I learnt a powerful lesson: “once the power of love, overcomes the love of power, only then will the world know tolerance and peace”

Whatever you do will echo in history

I approached the situation with wisdom and patience.
As the eyes are the tools for passing judgement.
We tried to avoid discrimination/apartheid.
That’s when we realised that if you possess honesty and compassion, you will be heard.
Really and truly, patience has its own rewards.
If you possess honesty and compassion, you will be heard.
Really and truly, patience has its own rewards.

Whatever you do will echo in history

I told them to be quite, it was all I could do, to try to make a difference
I then received a certificate for most disciplined player and by achieving this goal
They understood they were wrong, earned their respect it can’t be sold
Whatever you do will echo in history
Whatever you do will echo in history
Whatever you do will echo in history
Whatever you do will echo in history
BOOM

Whatever you do will echo in history

Whatever, Whatever, Whatever, Whatever
